GEMIAL Project

The GEMIAL project develops a federated Digital Twin for the food industry, integrating IoT, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Computer Vision, Virtual Reality, and a multi-cloud architecture. Its objective is to synchronize production planning with industrial refrigeration management, improving efficiency, traceability, and decision-making throughout the production process.

The consortium is composed of eight organizations that combine industry expertise with advanced technological capabilities: two Innovative Business Clusters (CLUSAGA and DIHGIGAL) and six companies (GRADHOC, ECO3G, IGNACIO GONZÁLEZ MONTES, COESCO DEZA, PANOIMAGEN, and SOLTEC INGENIEROS).

OBJECTIVES

  • Development of a digital ecosystem to optimize energy efficiency, traceability, and sustainability in the food industry.
  • Creation of a common data framework and a platform integrating Digital Twins.
  • Use of advanced sensing technologies and predictive models to automate data collection and anticipate energy consumption.
  • Validation in real-world environments using push and pull production models.
  • Ensuring cybersecurity and compliance with regulatory and ESG requirements.

IMPACT

The GEMIAL project will enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of the food industry by reducing energy costs and waste, digitalizing processes through Industry 4.0 technologies, and improving traceability and operational efficiency. It will also contribute to regulatory compliance and support the sector’s ecological and technological transition.

PROJECT CONSORTIUM

  • Food industry companies: IGNACIO GONZÁLEZ MONTES and COESCO DEZA / COCINA CULINARIA.
  • Technology companies: SOLTEC, PANOIMAGEN, and GRADHOC.
  • Sustainability and energy efficiency specialists: ECO3G.
  • Innovative Business Clusters (AEIs): CLUSAGA (lead entity) and DIHGIGAL (collaborating entity).

BENEFITS

The integration of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), IoT, and Digital Twins enables the development of a flexible and scalable solution that optimizes energy consumption, improves process traceability and sustainability, reduces food waste, and facilitates regulatory compliance. At the same time, it eliminates information silos and enhances operational efficiency and competitiveness, particularly for SMEs in the agri-food sector.

FUNDING

GEMIAL is funded through the 2025 call of the Support Programme for Innovative Business Clusters (AEIs) of the Spanish Ministry of Industry and Tourism and is coordinated by the Galicia Food Cluster (Clusaga).
